How to fit dual monitors into a small workspace.

Two screens can reduce window juggling, but they should not force you to turn your head all day or consume the entire desk. Design around your primary task first.

Decide which screen is primary

Center the display you look at most. Place the second screen beside it at a slight angle. If both are equally important, bring the seam between them to your centerline and use modestly sized displays rather than simply adding width.

Reclaim depth before adding width

Monitor arms can move displays back and clear their bases from the desk. Confirm that the rear of the desk has clamp room and that the displays will not strike a wall when repositioned.

Check laptop and cable limits

Confirm that the computer supports the number and resolution of displays you want. Hubs and adapters vary widely; verify the exact port and power requirements before treating a dual-monitor setup as plug-and-play.
